Between living, volunteering, and now working at 2100, I understand these guys pretty well.
There’s guys here who have done time in prison, so their life is already full of bosses; guards, social workers, unit staff-authority that can put you in the hole.
Some people you see ranting and raving, they just want respect. You learn to not put yourself above other people. You learn to be sensitive to others’ beliefs and needs.
It makes me feel good to show a person that not everyone’s against them. Even some of the most dangerous guys I’ve seen turn around when given
some attention.
I believe in laughter; you can do something to beak the tension, to help a person smile. I joke with people who others shun. It helps to just let it out with laughter.
