2024 Charles R. See Forum on Reentry Recap

Did you know that the word “reentry” didn’t just begin in Cleveland? It was coined at LMM and is now used nationally. This is proof that, with the leadership of reentry pioneer Charles R. See and the agency’s late founding Executive Director, Rev. Richard Sering, LMM has always been cutting edge, innovative and not afraid to go against the grain to make a difference in the world of advocacy nationwide.

On Friday, April 26, 2024, LMM partnered with the City Club of Cleveland to host the annual Charles R. See Forum on Reentry, featuring keynote speaker Yusuf Dahl, CEO of the Century Promise, to discuss removing barriers post-incarceration through Fair Chance Housing efforts.

Mr. Dahl kicked off the forum with a presentation highlighting his professional experience in advancing Fair Chance Housing, along with personal experiences that included his powerful story of earning a Princeton degree despite facing a ten-and-a-half-year prison sentence earlier in his life.

Following his presentation, Mr. Dahl sat down with forum moderator Stephanie Casanova, Criminal Justice Reporter with Signal Cleveland, to dig deeper into challenges around barriers for individuals with criminal records. Questions from Ms. Casanova and the audience struck conversation around breaking down barriers for individuals with criminal records, empowering individuals seeking to rebuild their lives, ways to implement Fair Chance Housing policies at local, state and federal levels and more.

LMM is proud to have hosted this year’s Charles R. See Forum on Reentry and to continue our work in breaking down barriers. As a proud advocate for Fair Chance Housing and Fair Chance Hiring, LMM is grateful to have been joined alongside Yusuf Dahl, the City Club of Cleveland and many other community partners to spread awareness around issues like these.

This annual forum is made possible through an endowment gifted by generous donors with a deep belief in returning citizens’ rights, and honors Charles See’s 44 years with LMM as a reentry pioneer and retired Executive Director of the Community Reentry program. Mr. See was in attendance at this year’s forum alongside his family. Congratulations to Mr. See!
