Hello everyone, My name is Emel Terzioglu from Rochester, NY and I will be working as an intern this summer for LMM in both the Advocacy and Development and Communications departments. I will be a junior at John Carroll University this fall, pursuing a major in Management and Human Resources with a minor in French.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing poetry, and am an avid watcher of Netflix documentaries. I also frequent local farmer’s markets and parks to go hiking with friends. My happy place is the lake by my house where my two younger siblings and I spend most of our summer days.
Following my high school graduation, I spent a year in France as a Rotary Youth Exchange student. This experience abroad cultivated a personal growth towards independence and solidified my love of travel, languages, and exploring other cultures.
In addition to my studies at John Carroll, I am employed at the Student Cashier’s Office as well as an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. I hold the position of Chief External Affairs Officer in our sorority’s executive committee and am in charge of organizing and promoting for all philanthropy and fundraiser-based events. In helping to raise money for our philanthropy; Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), I have become interested in working for a nonprofit and look forward to learning more about LMM ‘s mission and community outreach this summer. I am also responsible for inspiring and motivating my sorority using our social media platforms. I’m eager to learn more about virtual engagement.
Following graduation, I hope to pursue higher education and am planning on applying to Teach for America this upcoming fall.
JCU’s Center for Service and Social Action introduced me to LMM, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself in a service-based organization. Now, more than ever, I feel the need to become a greater part of my community in the pursuit of change. So far, the people that I have interacted with at LMM, even virtually, are incredibly welcoming and I cannot wait to make more connections. Charlie and I will be collaborating on a social media campaign to encourage voter and census participation. I also plan on learning more about LMM’s fundraising; hopefully searching for new donors and possibilities. I’m excited to see where this will lead!
