A Milestone in Housing Innovation: First Walls Raised on LMM’s Solar Home 🛠️🏠
Yesterday marked a major milestone for LMM’s solar housing initiative: the first walls of our energy-positive, affordable pilot home are officially up! On July 2, 2025, LMM staff, board members, and key partners gathered onsite for a celebratory event recognizing the progress and collaboration driving this innovative approach to housing.
Located in Cleveland’s St. Clair-Superior neighborhood, just around the corner from LMM’s Richard Sering Center, the pilot project is designed to provide long-term, sustainable housing for individuals transitioning out of homelessness. The first structure will feature two single-occupant units, each approximately 400 square feet, with solar-integrated roofs, high-performance insulation, and ultra-efficient electric systems. A second, identical duplex will soon be built on the adjacent lot, creating four affordable housing units in total.
“This is more than a house going up. It’s a model for the future of affordable housing in Cleveland,” said Michael Sering, LMM’s Chief Program Officer. “With rising utility and rent costs, these solar homes offer real, lasting solutions for individuals experiencing homelessness in Northeast Ohio.”
This project is made possible through the support of our incredible partners: PadSmart, Habitat for Humanity, the City of Cleveland, Councilwoman Stephanie Howse Jones, the St. Clair-Superior Development Corporation, the Cuyahoga Land Bank, MFS Supply, Moen, and a host of dedicated funders.
LMM is especially grateful to the many individuals and organizations who have supported this vision, from planning and policy to funding and framing. Together, we are building more than homes. We are building opportunity, dignity, and sustainability for our neighbors.
