At LMM, we’re proud to partner with organizations that share our commitment to economic empowerment and community well-being. In this blog, we connected with Erica Ressler, Mobile Branch Manager at PNC Bank, to dive deeper into the values that drive PNC’s work and their role as a financial institution committed to equity and access. From advice on building financial wellness to insights on community investment, Erica shares thoughtful responses that highlight the importance of cross-sector collaboration in creating stronger, more inclusive communities.
What sparked PNC’s interest in partnering with the Men’s Shelter?
PNC’s mobile branch underscores our commitment to positively impact the communities we serve by making banking easier and more accessible. Our mission and values align with those from Lutheran Men’s Shelter, and we appreciate the collaboration.
Can you share any memorable moments or experiences from your employees volunteering at the Shelter?
There are so many memorable moments we experience whenever we travel across Cleveland. One of the more impactful interactions we have is when a person visits our mobile branch and tells us how he or she is rebuilding their life. We turn into somewhat of a support system by listening to their story. I find out where they have been, what is happening now, and where they want to go. I get to be a part of helping them understand their financial goals and building out a plan for them to start working towards that goal. I help provide hope and excitement in hopes of helping that person plan for their financial future and that is incredibly rewarding!
How do you think PNC culture supports their communities?
We are doing our part to create communities that are economically vibrant, where people want to live, invest, play, and learn. At PNC, we believe that if we take the time to understand an individual’s financial needs and goals, we can utilize our solutions and expertise to help, and small business owners achieve those goals and meet their financial needs.
Can you share a personal story or experience that shows the power of corporate philanthropy or why it’s important to your organization?
I am fortunate to work for a company that has contributed more than 1.2 million hours of volunteer support for early childhood education. PNC’s employee volunteers are at the heart of PNC Grow Up Great®. This is the signature philanthropic initiative of the PNC Foundation which helps prepare children from birth through age 5 for success in school and in life, with an emphasis on underserved communities. It is great to work for a company that strives to eliminate barriers so that every child, especially those in underserved communities, has the opportunity to succeed.
What values do you look for in the organizations your company partners with, and how does LMM align with those values?
Among PNC’s values is quality of life and that aligns with the Men’s Shelter. We promote holistic well-being for our employees, customers, and communities. Similarly, the Men’s Shelter cares for the well-being of the men that reside at their organization.
What advice would you give to other companies looking to get more involved in corporate social responsibility and supporting nonprofits?
My advice to companies looking to get more involved in corporate social responsibility and supporting nonprofits would be to get involved. Employees like to find ways to volunteer their time and in return, it will make an employee feel good to have a way to give back. I have seen and experienced the way that supporting nonprofits helps build great relationships in the communities where a business operates.
