Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry (LMM) received notice of the passing of Wesley Wright, a resident of the Men’s Shelter at 2100 Lakeside Avenue. Mr. Wright was the victim of homicide in the early hours of Sunday, July 18th, 2021. LMM is working closely with the Cleveland Police Department (CPD) to support a thorough investigation and to seek justice for Mr. Wright.

We are shocked and saddened by this tragic incident. The board and staff of LMM send our deepest condolences to the Wright Family during what we know is a very difficult time. Mr. Wright was a resident of 2100 Lakeside who sought refuge from his experience with homelessness and was a valued member of our community.

The health and safety of the residents of 2100 is our top priority. The death of Mr. Wright occurred off-site, approximately a half-mile away from the shelter. While LMM staff is not able to have a security presence on the streets, we are committed to providing a stable location for men experiencing homelessness to have shelter, food and support services.

The Men’s Shelter has many security protocols in place to ensure the safety of our residents. The shelter is monitored closely by surveillance and a trained monitoring staff. We also contact CPD whenever situations occur that require law enforcement.

Upon entry to the shelter, all residents are required to leave items that are deemed unsafe in an amnesty box. Although this incident did not occur at the shelter, LMM acknowledges that the death of a resident is troubling and of great concern.

In honor of Mr. Wright, we invite you to join us for a vigil this week. More details on the vigil will be shared as soon as available. LMM will also make available grief support to all shelter residents and the staff at 2100.
