The mission of the Guardianship program is to enhance the quality of life of indigent, incompetent, older adults in Lorain County by providing trained, qualified volunteers to become legal guardians and serve as concerned, caring advocates and surrogate decision-makers when a less restrictive alternative (to guardianship) is not available.
Volunteers are motivated by a personal commitment to helping elderly people. They are recruited, screened, trained and provided with ongoing support for their service to residents of LorainCounty communities. Primary tasks of the volunteer guardian are advocating for their ward and making health and placement decisions.
Partners in this ministry include Community Foundation of Greater Lorain County, Lorain County Probate Court, Lorain County Mental Health Board, Lorain County Job & Family Services, Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging and United Way of Greater Lorain County.
