“building right relationships in community” is Lutheran Metropolitan Minsitry’s first official tagline. The LMM development committee and staff took on the quest for a tagline as the first step in a plan to build greater identity and awareness of LMM. Each word was carefully chosen.
“building” is a word about growth and change. Growth happens in a community of the faithful that forms, encourages, supports, corrects, instructs and holds accountable those in its midst along the journey.
“right relationships” refers to associations which are just, ethical and moral.
“community” focuses not on a geographical location but rather a community of people united in mission and service.
Right relationships and community connect profoundly with building; they work at buiding bonds and serving others simply because they are our neighbors.
Perhaps most importantly, “building right relationships in community” is the LMM answer to Micah’s call to “do justice, to love mercy, and walk humbly with God” on which the philosophy of LMM was based. As LMM marks 39 years of answering that call, we celebrate the efforts of the nearly 300 staff partners and hundreds of volunteers who, through LMM services, enhance the lives of those who were oppressed, forgotten and hurting.
