Advocates Take Unique Approach to Raise National Awareness Of Challenges Still Faced by Persons with Disabilities Nationwide Bus Tour Urges Full Realization of the Promise of the
ADA
(Cleveland, OH) – The landmark Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law more than 17 years ago to ensure that the civil rights of persons with disabilities would be protected and that the same opportunities to which all Americans are entitled would be available, regardless of disability. While the
ADA was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support and created change throughout the
U.S., many of its promises have not been kept. It is believed by many in the disability community that recent Federal Court rulings have eroded many of the employment protections that Congress had intended when it passed the law, and too many public services are still inaccessible to persons with disabilities.
