Friend-To-Friend Prison ministry is looking for volunteers to be assigned to prison inmates to visit them once a month and be a friend and encouragement to them. Men are assigned to men at Grafton Correctional Institution in Lorain County and women to women at Northeast Reintegration Center at East 30th and Orange Ave. in Cleveland. Serve with People with Long-Term Care Needs Adult Guardianship Services and Volunteer Guardianship Program of Lorain County invite compassionate, caring adults to advocate for someone who has no voice. AGS & VGP need volunteers to serve as legal guardians for indigent, incompetent adults to make medical and residency decisions for them. Comprehensive training and staff support provided. AGS is also in need of friendly visitors. A Friendly Visitor provides companionship to the resident and valuable information to the resident’s guardian through monthly visits. While visiting, the volunteer may talk, share stories, take walks, play cards, or enjoy other interests with the resident. Volunteers are needed to assist staff with a community based after school program on the near west side. Teens are mostly African-American and Hispanic, male and female, between the ages of 12-18. Activities include basketball, recreation, computers, music, topical programs, leadership development, cooking, aerobics, and field trips. Be creative. Our teens are making the transition from foster care and or juvenile detention to independent living. They live in their own apartments in Lakewood. Before new residents arrive their new home is painted, cleaned, furnished and made inviting for these special teens. Volunteers are needed to make a studio apartment a welcoming home. Teens deserve a clean safe place to live
Volunteers are needed at the Westhaven Youth Shelter, a crisis shelter for runaway and homeless boys and girls. Because of the sensitive nature of the clients, direct contact is not possible, but there are always needs for maintenance, landscaping, painting, and other support tasks. Next Step teens are making a fresh start and they need all the things any young person needs in their first place.
